LCD and OLED displays: advantages and disadvantages

Liquid crystal's advantages are organic light emitting diodes' disadvantages, and liquid crystal's disadvantages are organic light emitting diodes' advantages.

The first difference is

LCD displays are backlit panel displays, while OLED displays are self-illuminating.

OLED has the following advantages:

There is a fatal defect in liquid crystal, the liquid crystal layer cannot be completely closed, so liquid crystal black is actually a mixture of black and white gray. OLED is truly black.

The LCD display has a backlight layer, and the backlight can leak from the gap between the screen and the border, causing light leaks.

There is more evidence of light leakage

Liquid crystal displays are much thicker than OLED displays due to the presence of the backlight layer and the liquid crystal layer.

Flexibility: Due to the presence of the backlight layer and the liquid crystal layer, the LCD screen cannot be bent strongly, so most of the curved screens of mobile phones on the market are organic LEDs.

bright colors: OLED wins, you can see the contrast, the higher the contrast, the clearer the image, the brighter and more colorful.

Organic light-emitting diodes can make some areas glow independently. So you can have a lock screen and be able to tell the time all the time.

In addition, LCD is all working, whereas OLED is a pixel lamp, so it is doomed to the LCD's power consumption.

It takes time for a pixel to change from color 1 to color 2, called gray response time; this time is too long, leading to visual residuals. Organic light-emitting diodes were almost instantaneous.

OLED has the following disadvantages:

OLED is an organic material, and its lifespan is much shorter than LCD inorganic materials.

It is guaranteed that the naked eye will be able to see the screen after three years as long as the brightness is below 60% and the phone does not display pictures for a long time.

A low brightness screen will have obvious stroboscopic effects (similar to a light bulb flickering), causing discomfort, feeling uncomfortable and dizziness. It is very harmful to the eyes.

OLED screens will have one-third the sharpness of a small square root at the same resolution.

LCD: RGB pixels are arranged, which can ensure the comprehensive development of sub-pixel information and display, and the imaging image is natural.

Both pixels of organic LED require adjacent pixels to image, and the image has colored jagged edges.
